From the Favelas to the Amazon
Three Decades of Dream Visions from Latin America
The exhibition Behind the Moment showcases the impressive work of Jan Siebert, a German-born artist living in Latin America. Over the course of three decades, Siebert has created an oeuvre deeply rooted in the cultures of Mexico and Brazil.
On display at MesseQuartier are paintings, projected film fragments, a dynamic red-light installation, and chapters from his nearly completed film. Together, they offer striking insights into the hidden, raw, and luminous moments of urban and natural life — from favelas and brothels to the depths of the Amazon.
The exhibition takes place as part of Festiva Basel 2025, the city’s cultural event dedicated to Latin America.
